POSITION: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner - Saturday
LOCATION: Brooklyn and Queens (2 positions)
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides specialized knowledge and skills for psychiatric and mental health evaluation, assessment and management of resident/clients. The position reports to the Medical Director. This position will work Saturdays from 9AM to 2PM.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Practice in collaboration with psychiatric and physicians in providing mental health services including medication management for resident/clients
- Assess the multidimensional needs of resident/clients and develops and implements care plans
- Provide psycho therapy for resident/clients
- Provide pre-admission psychiatric evaluations for prospective resident/clients
- Function as a resident/client advocate, by participating in clinical meetings, resident/client care conferences and informal discussion with health care staff
- Provide specialized education of nursing staff relative to psychiatric mental health needs of resident/clients
- Participate in ongoing evaluation of educational needs of nursing staff
- Participate in developing effective standards of nursing practice related to the psychiatric-mental health needs of residents/clients
- Provide resident/client education relative to psychiatric mental health issues
- Attend and participate in continuing educational programs, seminars, etc., designated to maintain professional competence
- Perform all related duties, as assigned, or unrelated duties, as requested, during emergencies
- Provide residents/clients with Therapeutic Touch and guidance in learning techniques for the promotion of relaxation
- Demonstrate an understanding of the management and care of the adult substance abuse population
- Demonstrate a willingness to initiate and participate in ongoing research projects

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Master’s Degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. Licensed to practice as a NYS Nurse Practitioner with Certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. At least 2 years experience in the psychiatric mental heatlh care of persons with HIV/AIDS. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
