Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides specialized knowledge and skills for psychiatric and mental health evaluation, assessment and management of clients. Strong therapy skills are essential. The positions report to the Director of Outpatient Mental Health.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide psychotherapy for clients including individual, couples and family therapy
- Provide psychiatric evaluations for clients
- Practice in collaboration with psychiatrist and physicians in providing mental health services including medication management for clients
- Assess the multidimensional needs of clients and develops and implements care plans
- Function as a client advocate, by participating in clinical meetings, client care conferences and informal discussion with health care staff
- Provide client education relative to psychiatric mental health issues
- Attend and participate in continuing educational programs, seminars, etc., designated to maintain professional competence
- Perform all related duties, as assigned, or unrelated duties, as requested, during emergencies
- Demonstrate an understanding of the management and care of the adult substance abuse population

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Master's Degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. Licensed to practice as a NYS Nurse Practitioner with Certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. At least 2 years experience in the psychiatric mental health care of persons with HIV/AIDS. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
