Sandra Miller, Controller

Location: Briarwood aka B’Wood

Years at HELP/PSI: I have been in my current position for 3 years, but I have been with the agency since 1998. I started at HELP/PSI as an Accounts Payable Clerk then moved up to Bookkeeper then Accountant and finally Senior Accountant

Educational background: BA in Accounting

Primary responsibilities: I am in charge of processing payroll and handling all questions, Accounts Payable, Monthly General Journal entries, telephone and email interacting with staff, outside vendors and associates. Does that sound challenging or what?

What do you like most about the industry?
I like the healthcare industry because it gives me a chance to give back to people that really needs help, although I may not be involved directly with our clients, I think my work behind the scenes does have an impact on the day to day operations of the organization.

What do you like most about HELP/PSI? What I like most about HELP/PSI is the family oriented environment. Everyone is friendly and easy to get along with. It also gave an opportunity to educate myself about the population we are trying to help, because working at HELP/PSI I have seen clients become peer volunteers and eventually staff, it was great seeing someone that started with nothing and ended with great accomplishments.

Greatest challenge: My greatest challenge is growing in my field, because I believe in life you never stop learning, growing and achieving. My second greatest challenge is being a good mother my son.

Favorite hobbies: I am single and I like outdoor activities, movies, dancing and driving my 17 year old crazy

What’s on my iPod: I don’t own an ipod, my only start of the art technology feature is my cell phone, a plain cell phone that receives and make calls.

Extra Tidbits: I don’t have any shoes or handbag fetishes I just like beautiful things. The advice I give sometimes are not taken so I only give to people I think are to going to listen and appreciate of what I have to say, I think I am a very good judge of character. I got into accounting because I love numbers, accounting is also challenging to one’s mind and I think I just disliked reading,, so boring to me, I prefer to watch the movie than read the book.
