HELP/PSI Profiles
Shawn, volunteer
"I chose to volunteer at PSI so I could learn more about HIV & AIDS, and also to give back to my community. I’ve always been an advocate for safe sex and a safe environment. Also, I love to help those in need and reaching out to anyone I possibly can. Volunteering for PSI just didn’t come out of nowhere. I recently had found out that 2 close friends of mine had become HIV positive. When I heard the news it definitely broke my heart and at the same time was a reality check. You always hear about people contracting HIV & AIDS on the news or in movies. But it definitely hits home when it’s someone close to you and that you care for has contracted it. That was my driving force to want to get more involved in the LBGT Community and to learn more about HIV & AIDS. I’ve learned that tomorrow isn’t promised and that you should live everyday like it’s your last. And to be safe about it and make the best judgment. Since volunteering at PSI I’ve gained more knowledge and I’ve met so many great people. It has become such a great experience and I feel blessed to be able to have the opportunity to give back. "
